I knew Africa wasn't doing so well with it's people, but I didn't know about it's animals. Frankly, I didn't even think about it. I figured people weren't doing well cause obviously we can't really eat grass and drink water out of a lake but animals never crossed my mind. I am a huge animal lover, so this upset me lots.
This is my favorite photo by him because he overlapped the photos and made it look like the giraffe was watching the land get ruined.
Rule of thirds is present in this photo because the main focus is on the giraffe in the far left side.
Nick photographs on medium-format black and white film without telephoto or zoom lenses. I think this is important because it gives his photos that raw look.
He said he takes the photos like this because he wants to show animals in the state of Being. Not action or dramatic, he just wants to show animals as they are.
He hopes for people to see animals just as they are.
"You wouldn't take a portrait of a human being from a hundred feet away and expect to capture their spirit; you'd move in close."
